Job Description
The Journal of Singing (JOS) is seeking an author for the position of Associate Editor (AE) of the JOS column, “Mindful Voice.” Guided by the Editor in Chief Matthew Hoch, this coassociate editor will work alongside current AE Elisa Monti to create and define the content of this longstanding column in the Journal of Singing.
Job Duties and Primary Responsibilities
Specific duties associated with management of the “Mindful Voice” column will be the following:
- Authorship of 5 regular columns per JOS volume, with an approximate length of 3,000–5,000 words with endnotes.
- Occasional contributions from guest authors. In these instances the associate editor(s) will assume responsibility for editing the article and steering the guest author through the peer-review process.
- JOS is published five times per year, with all author deadlines four months previous to publication, as follows:
- May 1 deadline for the Sept/Oct. issue
- July 1 deadline for Nov/Dec
- Sept 1 deadline for Jan/Feb
- Nov 1 deadline for March/April
- Jan 1 deadline for May/June
- Guest columns must be submitted for peer review at least two months in advance of the above deadlines.
- Note that these deadlines are fixed and cannot be altered.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- experience with, knowledge of, and commitment to the field of singing and voice pedagogy
- a breadth of knowledge of current practices and recent research in any or all of the following: motor learning theory, cognitive neuroscience, and psychology and their application to voice pedagogy.
- a strong (but not necessarily lengthy) record of quality peer-reviewed scholarship.
- strong writing skills and facility with academic writing conventions.
- proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- excellent personal communication and organizational skills.

- Status as an expert in the field, as evidenced by a record of publication.
NATS Membership: It is our practice and expectation that all JOS personnel be dues-paying members of the association.
Salary: This is an unremunerated position.
