Job Description / Duties

The Institute of Music at DePauw University invites applications for a one-year term choral position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2024. A Master's degree in Music by the time of appointment is required. Preferred qualifications include a doctorate in music (ABD acceptable) or commensurate experience. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal-arts setting and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential. This position includes the equivalent of a six-course, on-campus teaching assignment (three per primary term). Funding is available for professional development and research with undergraduate students.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Institute of Music specifically seeks candidates to direct undergraduate choirs (treble, mixed, and community) and teach music electives. Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining a strong choral program (e.g., recruiting); providing excellent choral instruction of a wide variety of musical styles and traditions; and emphasizing vocal health and the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a record of success in recruitment, and provide evidence of excellent college-level choral direction, college-level classroom teaching experience, and a secondary area of expertise.
