Assistant Professor- Vocal Studies and Musical Theatre
Location: Brooks Center Performing Arts
Position Summary: The Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University seeks an Assistant Professor of vocal studies and musical theatre to begin August 2019. This is a 9-month tenure track faculty position that will hold the academic rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will work with colleagues to build and maintain a vibrant vocal studies program, assuming a variety of responsibilities as the major demands; serve as music director of at least one musical theatre production/concert per year, direct one choral ensemble and/or offer voice lessons. May teach additional courses such as acting for musical theatre, class voice, history of musical theater, or production-related courses depending upon the candidate's qualifications and the needs of the department; work collaboratively with faculty members from the music and theatre areas on musical theatre productions; participate actively in student recruitment; demonstrate ongoing scholarly/creative activity; develop coursework related to musical theatre. Additional responsibilities include all service related activities associated with a tenure-track position: advising, committee assignments, recruiting, and other forms of institutional service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should be ABD or have completed a doctorate in voice performance, choral conducting, or a related field. Additional qualifications: teaching experience at the college level or equivalent professional experience; evidence of potential for high quality scholarly/creative activity; demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and student recruitment. Preference may be given to candidates with experience directing choral ensembles and/or with musical theater experience.
