Job Description / Duties
Brooklyn Youth Chorus (BYC) is seeking a part-time Voice Teacher to join its faculty. BYC serves young singers ages 5-18 at varying levels of experience and vocal development. The position entails teaching private weekly voice lessons ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. Lessons take place weekday afternoons, after school, and on Saturdays and will take place in person at BYC headquarters. The majority of lessons are in person, but virtual lessons may be offered based on student demand. Voice faculty typically serve as a resource for BYC ensemble conductors and opportunities to provide small group instruction to ensemble singers may arise. Number of weekly work hours is flexible and depends on student demand and teacher availability.
This position reports directly to the School Administrator and will run from January 2023 to May/June 2023 with the possibility to be renewed after June 2023 for future seasons.
Qualifications / Required Skills
-Demonstrated expertise in applied voice science and vocal health including: parameters of registration, vowel resonance, and breath management, with an emphasis on head register development for treble singers as well as voice change navigation.
-Well versed in vocal pedagogy for classical technique and comfortable teaching CCM styles.
-Willingness to learn and align with Founder and Artistic Director, Dianne Berkun Menaker’s trademarked Cross-Choral Training pedagogy, with the intent to provide a unified approach to vocal teaching at Brooklyn Youth Chorus across private lessons and choral rehearsals.
-Belief in the mission and core values of Brooklyn Youth Chorus
-Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds
-Full COVID-19 vaccination

Salary: Hourly rate begins at $64/hr
