Bio:

Jou-Lu Hung (also known as Lulu Hung) started to play piano at age of 4. At age of 9, recognized for her musical talent and potential, Hung was selected to the choir Shou-Lang school and was chosen as solo vocalist. Hung became conductor of the Chung Kuo Institute of Technology and Commerce choir in 1993 at age 17. She led the choir to win second place at 1994, and first place at 1995 of Annual National College Choir Competition. Hung received the Doctor of Education (2012) at University of San Francisco with a dissertation topic focusing on sight-singing methods for music with various levels of diatonic and chromatic complexity. She also holds a Master of Music (2005) in Voice Performance at San Francisco State University, and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music (2001) in Voice and Piano Performance at National Taiwan Normal University. Lulu Hung has sung solo voice recitals, and she has performed in choir as lead solo soprano in Taiwan, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, Salzburg, Singapore, and Malaysia. She has performed the opera characters: “Euridice” in Ofero ed Euridice, and in Orphee aux Enfers, “Adina” in L’elisir D’amore, “Susanna” in Le Nozze di Figaro, and “Frasquita” in Carmen. Hung also has performed solo piano recitals, and played in numerous piano solo performances, in Taiwan and San Francisco. She stands out her performances in her passionate and heartfelt musicality.

Dr. Hung teaches music lessons in various categories including Piano, Voice, Music Theory, Ear-training/Sight-singing. Hung also specializes in helping students prepare for the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) exams with 100% students’ pass rate. In Taiwan, she taught at Fugue Music School, His-Sung High School, guest instructor at National Taiwan University summer program, and choir conductor of Chung Kuo Institute of Technology and Commerce Choir. After relocating to the United States, she continues to teach at her own private music studio, Lulu Hung Music Studio in San Francisco. Dr. Hung was President of the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC)San Francisco Branch from 2017 to 2021, and currently an active member of the organization, and also National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
