Bio:

Mezzo-soprano Rachel Wood has appeared in opera, concert, and recital performances across Canada, the United States, Italy, and the Netherlands. She is a graduate of the Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam, where she performed the title role in The Rape of Lucretia, La Natura and Endimione (La Calisto), and Penelope (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria). Other opera credits include Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), Alma March (Little Women), Madame de Croissy (Dialogues des Carmélites), and Cornelia (Giulio Cesare).

As a concert soloist, Dr. Wood has appeared in recent performances of Gloria (Vivaldi), Magnificat and Weihnachtsoratorium (Bach), Messiah (Handel), Symphony No. 9 (Beethoven), Oratorio de Noël (Saint-Saëns), Shéhérazade (Ravel), and Songfest (Bernstein). In the Midwest, Dr. Wood has performed as a soloist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra Rhapsodie Quartet, Madison Bach Musicians, Wisconsin Chamber Choir, Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, Symphony 847, Lake Forest Civic Orchestra, and Janesville Choral Union.

Dr. Wood completed her Doctor of Music degree at Indiana University, and holds Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Western University. She furthered her studies at the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy, Accademia Europea dell’Opera, the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy, and in 2020 was one of twelve singers selected to participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern Program. She is currently an Associate Professor and Voice Area Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
