Bio:
JoEllyn Caulfield, soprano, holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Northern Illinois University. Ms. Caulfield has maintained a successful private teaching studio since 2000. She has taught students of all ages and levels, and has assisted numerous students with auditioning for roles as well as gaining entrance into summer programs and universities. Her students have gained acceptance as music majors or received music scholarships at Northern Illinois, Belmont University, Hope College, Illinois State, Boston College, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, DePauw, Lawrence, Alma, Western Illinois, Truman, North Central, Aurora University, WLC, Butler, and many others. They have attended Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen Summer Program, Tanglewood Summer Program, Northwestern University’s NHSMI program, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Currently, she teaches at Naperville Central High School, Oswego East High School, and her studio in South Naperville. She previously taught at Brookdale Music and the NIU Community School.
JoEllyn was on staff at Michigan State University as a Teacher’s Assistant, teaching private lessons as well as Class Voice for Non-Music Majors during her Master’s Program. She was also invited to teach at the Community School for the Arts at Michigan State University. Her informative lectures have covered such topics as “Singing as a Profession,” “Choosing a Music Education, Performance, Musical Theatre or Theatre Program,” and “Breathing, Intonation, and Warming Up.”
In addition to private teaching and lecturing in local venues, JoEllyn sings in the professional touring ensemble, Cor Cantiamo, based out of Dekalb, IL. In February 2010, JoEllyn was a featured soloist for the esteemed composer, Morten Lauridsen, while he was in residency at Northern Illinois University. She has recorded songs for the March of Dimes, and was a soloist on a recording guided by famed composer Libby Larsen. Ms. Caulfield has been soloist for numerous private recitals and concerts, including soprano soloist for Gloria by Vivaldi, The Messiah by Handel, Missa Brevis St. Joannis de Deo by Haydn, and The Coronation Mass and Missa Brevis K.194 by Mozart. She soloed with the Bach Chamber Choir of Rockford. Ms. Caulfield travelled to Poland with the NIU Chamber Choir after receiving a grant to attend the Universitas Cantat Program. In August 2010, she traveled to England to perform Evensong Services at Canterbury Cathedral. In April 2014, she traveled to Rome as soprano soloist with the SSPP Choral Scholars. JoEllyn sings at numerous churches as soloist for wedding, funeral, and worship services. She has performed in productions such as La Boheme, Pagliacci, Dido and Aeneas, Pirates of Penzance, Four Saints in Three Acts, Nine, and many others. JoEllyn is an active member of National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the CCNATS. Chapter. Currently, she is the Secretary for Cor Cantiamo Board of Directors.
