Bio:
Acclaimed Mexican-American soprano, Elena Galván, is celebrated for her "perfectly spun, silvery soprano" and "brilliant, crystalline top," distinguishing herself as a soprano with a flair for comedy, praised for her "deft timing and repartee of a natural comedienne." Most recently, Elena made her house debut with Opera Parallèle in the West Coast Premiere of Fellow Travelers as Miss Lightfoot. Last season marked her debuts at Syracuse Opera and Tri-Cities Opera, where she captivated audiences as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, a role she performed at Hawaii Opera Theatre and Florida Grand Opera to critical acclaim. Elena's recent repertoire includes standout performances as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Norina in Don Pasquale, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, showcased at esteemed venues like Opera San José, Florida Grand Opera, and Opera Ithaca. Elena has also participated in renowned Young Artist Programs at Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Saratoga, Virginia Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, and Kentucky Opera. While maintaining her private studio, Elena is currently an Adjunct Voice Professor at Broward College and an Adjunct Voice Instructor at Nova Southeastern University. In recent years, Elena has been the Voice Instructor for the Girl Choir of South Florida, and an Adjunct Voice Teacher at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut, Creek, FL. Elena is a returning Voice Faculty member at Ithaca College’s Summer Music Academy, and has taught private lessons and repertoire classes as a Visiting Guest Teacher at Ithaca College and Cornell University. She has maintained her private voice studio since completing her teaching internships at Ithaca College, working with students ages twelve to eighty in classical voice, musical theater, jazz, and pop from amateur to the pre-professional level. Elena was also a Dana Intern with the nationally renowned Ithaca Children’s Choir while attending Ithaca College. Elena has students who have gone on to study music at such schools as Vanderbilt University, Temple University, New York University, Lynn University, St. Olaf College of Music, and Ithaca College and have students who have successfully auditioned for competitions, summer performance programs, and school entrance examinations across the country.
Elena has trained in the United States and Italy with internationally regarded teachers including Catherine Cook, Patrice Pastore, Barbara Honn, and Benita Valente. While pursuing her operatic career, Elena has worked with young and aspiring singers through educational outreach programs with the San Francisco Opera Guild, Florida Grand Opera, Virginia Opera, Kentucky Opera, and Livermore Valley Opera. Elena holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Ithaca College and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
