Blessed with a sumptuous voice of magnificent proportions, soprano RACHEL ROSALES is capable of delivering the fiery intensity of Verdi’s most demanding works or spinning out the delicate filigree of Handel’s intricate embellishments--from Early Music to Modern--and has achieved both popular and critical acclaim on national and international stages in opera, oratorio and solo recital. A ubiquitous presence on the New York City scene, she has performed as a soloist in major New York concert venues from Lincoln Center to Carnegie Hall with New York City Opera, New York Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sacra, the Orpheus Orchestra, Sacred Music in a Sacred Space, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Oratorio Society of New York, Voices of Ascension, American Virtuosi/Baroque Opera Theatre, New York Collegium, Little Orchestra Society of New York, The New York Choral Society. Highlights of the upcoming and recent seasons include performances of Mozart “Requiem” & Brahms’ “Ein deutsches Requiem” with the Stamford and Spokane Symphony, Eckart Preu, conductor; Shostakovich’s “Romanzen-Suite”, op. 127 with Ensemble π; Beethoven’s “Christus am Ölberge”, Mozart’s “Requiem” and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 (“Lobgesang”) with Sacred Music in a Sacred Space Series, Kent Tritle, music director and conductor; in composer’s Richard Wilson’s opera “Æthelred the Unready” as Emma—the nagging wife—at Vassar College’s “Modfest 2011” with performances at Vassar College and Symphony Space, NYC; Handel’s “Messiah” with the Peniel Chorus and Orchestra of New Jersey; György Ligeti’s opera “Le Grand Macabre” with NY Philharmonic; and Verdi’s “Missa da Requiem” with the Dayton Symphony.
She regularly performs at music festivals around the world and USA, participating in the Verbier Music Festival (Switzerland), in Israel with the Israel Philharmonic, Zubin Mehta conductor, the Lincoln Center Summer Festival, “Summerscape” at Bard College, the Bard Music Festival and the Carmel Bach Festival.
She has appeared with Berkshire Opera, Opera Illinois, Arizona Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Eugene Opera, Opera New Orleans, Canadian Opera, Calgary Opera, Berkshire Choral Festival, Berkshire Bach Chorale, Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Four Nations Baroque Ensemble, Connecticut Early Music Festival, National Symphony Orchestra, Bronx Arts Ensemble, Symphony of the United Nations, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and the Bach Choir of Vancouver.
Upon completion of her undergraduate studies at Arizona State University, she joined the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera and later earned her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in Voice and Opera Performance. She was a National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and took First Place in competitions sponsored by the San Francisco Opera Center, the Music Teachers National Association and the National Association of the Teachers of Singing. In 1989 she was given the “Young Alumni Achievement Award” by her alma mater, Arizona State University. Recordings include “Of Bondage and Freedom” with North/South Consonance, The Music of John Anthony Lennon with Continuum for Composers Recordings, Inc., The Music of Samuel Zyman for Warner Brothers, “Ritmo Jondo - Music of Carlos Suriñach” with Pablo Zinger, piano, for New World Records, and “El mensajero de Plata,” an opera, by Roberto Sierra with the Bronx Arts Ensemble. She recently retired as a member of the teaching faculty Vassar College and has maintained a private teaching studio.
