Title: Voice Teacher/Performer

Bio: Abigail Head, a soprano from the Roanoke Valley, has been singing for as long as she can remember. She was involved in both her church children’s choir and the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir growing up. Upon graduating high school, Abigail pursued a degree in vocal performance at Samford University where she was afforded many performance opportunities. Some of these performances include singing the title role, Amahl, in Amahl and the Night Visitors, singing in choruses for On the Town, Hansel and Gretel, The Dessert Song, and Die Fledermaus. For two years following her bachelor’s degree, Abigail worked as an apprentice artist with Opera Roanoke, singing in the chorus for their 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons in such shows as South Pacific, Susannah, Tosca, and La Bohème. Abigail earned a master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 2020. While at Peabody, Abigail performed as Suor Osmina in Suor Angelica, sang in the chorus of Kirke Mechem’s Pride and Prejudice, and performed the role Narrator in The Hiding Tree, a one-hour outreach opera for which Abigail also served as the performance coordinator. Upon completing her master’s program, Abigail began work on a doctoral degree at the University of Georgia. During her time at UGA, Abigail has performed in several opera scenes programs, both as a singer and as a director. She also sang Despina in the 2022 production of Cosi fan tutte. Additionally, she wrote the libretto for a new one act opera based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland which she had the pleasure of directing. While at UGA, Abigail has had the opportunity to teach voice students both through the music school and through various arts schools. She has helped several students gain admission into university music programs while also teaching a diction class and working on her own performances. In the coming months, Abigail will present her final doctoral recital and will perform the role Anne in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Abigail encourages her students to engage with the stories they are telling through their music. She works with her singers to find new ways of thinking about text and melody and encourages an honest communication of emotion and action on stage. In teaching and performing, Abigail keeps Bach’s signature in mind. Soli Deo Gloria – To God alone be the glory.
