Bio:

Martha Castillero, soprano, received her BA in voice concentration and MA in vocal performance from Truman State University. While there, she studied with Dr. Thomas Hueber. After graduating from Truman, she continued her education and completed a year of DMA studies at the University of Kansas under the direction of Dr. Julia Broxholm.

At Truman State, Martha performed the roles of Serafina in Donizetti’s Il companello di note and Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She performed Schubert’s Mass in G with choir and chamber orchestra and as the 2012 Gold Medal Concerto/Aria winner, performed “Depuis le jour” from Charpentier’s Louise with the Truman State University orchestra. In 2011, Martha was a finalist and won third place in the graduate division of the Central Region NATS competition, held at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. At the University of Kansas, Martha performed scenes as the First Lady from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the KU Opera Workshop. She had the privilege of singing selections from Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer in a master class held by renowned vocal coach Martin Katz (Michigan), with Katz accompanying. Martha has sung in coachings with Katz, Russell Miller (Eastman), and Ted Taylor (Yale) and master classes with former and current Metropolitan Opera singers Cynthia Munzer and Susanna Phillips and Dr. Tiffany Blake (Colorado State). Martha has sung in and soloed with the Bach Collegium of Fort Wayne, IN. With the Bach Collegium, she’s performed Monteverdi’s “Beatus vir primo” from Selva morale e spiritual, Vivaldi’s Magnificat, selections from C.P.E Bach’s Come, Eager Throng, BWV 41 Jesu nun sei gepreiset, and the Credo of the Mass in B minor. While in Fort Wayne, she also performed BWV 80 Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott at the Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN. Martha currently resides in Sheridan, Wyoming with her husband, René, where she is an adjunct voice professor and music foundations instructor at Sheridan College and runs a private voice studio.
