Bradley Sowell

Bio: Bradley Sowell, baritone, is currently in the third year of the doctoral program at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, where he studies voice with Dr. Randal Rushing. He also is Adjunct Professor of Voice at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he primarily teaches voice lessons. Previously, Mr. Sowell served as Lecturer of Voice and Aural Skills at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. He primarily taught major and non-major voice lessons. Mr. Sowell was also a classroom teacher, teaching aural skills, diction, music appreciation, and vocal methods. Additionally, he was a music director and performer at the university. He served as music director for a fully staged production of the musical Cabaret by John Kander and Fred Ebb. He performed recitals regularly during the concert series as well as having been a soloist on several occasions. Mr. Sowell most recently performed in Le nozze di Figaro as Count Almaviva in Salzburg, Austria for the Austrian American Mozart Academy. This was an auditioned summer program, in which he was awarded a scholarship to attend. His current season includes the role of Sam in Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti (University of Memphis) as well as being the baritone soloist in Faure's Requiem (Germantown United Methodist Church). Other roles Mr. Sowell has performed include Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro (University of Memphis, University of South Dakota), Sir Roderic in Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore (University of Memphis), Dater #12 in Michael Ching's Speed Dating Tonight (University of South Dakota), and Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus (University of South Dakota). He was also the baritone soloist for Carmina Burana (Georgia College). In addition to performing and teaching, Mr. Sowell serves as an adjudicator for the state NATS competitions. He also reaches out to local high schools as a clinician for choirs and soloists. Mr. Sowell received his Master of Music (vocal performance) from the University of South Dakota and his Bachelor of Music Education (choral music education) from Georgia College.
