Bio:
Phoebe Gildea (they/she) is an active performer and passionate educator based in Portland, OR. She is a Licensed Body Mapping Educator, and holds two levels of Teacher Certification from the nationally renowned OperaWorks program. They successfully transitioned their whole studio online at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now continue to teach online lessons to students all over the country, as well as in-person lessons in Portland.
In addition to private voice and piano lessons, Phoebe offers online courses and group workshops including What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body, Stage Fright Survival Skills, and Performance Techniques. Her goal is to help musicians find joy on stage, release their unique voices (both literal and metaphorical), and be well-rounded artists.
As a performer, Phoebe has been called “radiant on state” with a “rich, beautiful voice” (Oregon ArtsWatch). A notably versatile performer, she has also been praised for giving “gritty, intense performances” (BroadwayWorld). Favorite credits include Iolanthe (Iolanthe), Alice Russell (LIZZE: The Musical), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Zweite Dame/Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Emma (Jekyll & Hyde), Foreign Princess (Rusalka), Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Amalia (She Loves Me), Wellgunde (Das Rheingold), Celeste (FREE MEN world premiere workshop), and alto solos in Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Messiah. She has appeared with Portland Opera, Astoria Music Festival, Clackamas Repertory Theatre, Stumptown Stages, Majestic Theatre, Lark Opera, and Bravo! Northwest, among others.
Phoebe holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Chapman University. Equally passionate about understanding music as about performing it, they received a concurrent Bachelor of Arts in music with a music history focus, which culminated in a thesis on resurrection mythology in opera. Also an accomplished pianist, Phoebe won the Paderewski Medal from the National Guild of Piano Teachers in 2016 and has completed Level X Syllabus for the Oregon Music Teachers Association.
