Bio:
Chandi Millet Plummer, D.M.A., is based in Louisville, Kentucky where she teaches and is the coordinator for vocal studies at Boyce College. As an instructor, she regularly performs faculty recitals and teaches voice, vocal pedagogy, choral conducting, and children’s music methods, among other classes. She is an active member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing where her students have advanced to the semi-finals and finals in area competitions. Plummer has more than 20 years of teaching experience. A number of her former students have returned requesting mentorship as current voice teachers. Per their request, she has been honored to teach a vocal pedagogy mentorship class (Summer - Fall 2024). She presented a poster presentation at the NATS National Conference in 2024, titled How Spirituals Influenced Both Resistance to Nazis and Civil Rights Protests.
Plummer recently guest lectured and taught at Bellarmine University, the University of Kentucky, and Colorado Christian University. She taught at the Bay View Music Festival in Michigan on the influence of spirituals, Summer 2024. Plummer brings diverse musical experience to her current singing career specializing in chamber music, recitals, concert work, and oratorios. In the 2022 International Clara Schumann Competition she won second prize in the professional voice category. She annually performs the soprano solos for G. F. Handel’s Messiah. Other oratorio performances include W. A. Mozart’s Missa Brevis, B-flat Major. She is the artistic director and founding member of Soli Deo Gloria, a chamber music ensemble featuring violin, soprano, and piano. Some of her favorite performances of operatic scenes and roles include: Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance (Mabel) with The Louisville Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Handel’s Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra), and Menotti’s The Medium (Monica) in the Killer Women of Opera concert in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Plummer received a B.M. in voice performance with an honors scholarship from The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Patricia Berlin; an M.M. in voice performance from Southern Seminary; and a D.M.A. in voice performance from the University of Kentucky where she studied with Dr. Everett McCorvey.
