Title: SHIGO VOICE STUDIO

Bio: DANIEL SHIGO is a New York City voice teacher, researcher, and writer. A member of the New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera, Daniel has spent his life studying, researching, and applying the principles of bel canto onstage and in the voice studio. He offers singers and voice teachers the wisdom and teachings of Pauline Viardot-Garcia, Manuel Garcia, and Francesco Lamperti as taught by their student Anna Eugénie Schoen-René. Alfred Tomatis has also influenced Daniel's teaching; his two-decade experience with Tomatis' pioneering work in audiopsychophonology has enabled him to understand the principles of bel canto uniquely and develop innovative tools that transform the voice. Extensive historical vocal pedagogy research has led Daniel to become the founding editor of VOICEPrints—The Official Journal of the New York Singing Teachers Association, discover a lost singing manual—Hidden in Plain Sight: The Hermann Klein Phono-Vocal Method Based upon the Famous School of Manuel Garcia (2013) and receive a generous four-year grant from the Agnes Varis Trust to complete research for a book that reveals the proprietary teachings of the Garcias and Lampertis.
