Bio: “Vocally outstanding with an empathy for the spirit of the song,” (Handel’s Messiah, LFP) A graduate of Western University, Gloria Gassi holds a Master of Music with Honours in voice performance and literature, a Licentiate and Associateship in voice performance, Gold Medal, and an ARCT in piano. Operatic roles are cited as “dramatically captivating, with beautiful tone and a prowess for ringing high notes” (Fiordiligi, Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, CFP); “a sensitive performer with respect to the profound meaning of the role” (New Prioress, Madame Lidoine, Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites). Oratorio performances in Canada and abroad include Handel's Messiah, Saul, Bach's St. John Passion, Brahms' Requiem, Honegger's King David, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Purcell’s Ode to St. Cecilia, Haydn’s Missa Brevis. Ms. Gassi sang as soloist and in ensemble with the acclaimed Elmer Iseler Singers, performing throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and the Orient. Recent solos include Rutter’s Magnificat, with King’s College Chamber Choir, Fantasy on English Folk Songs by Christopher Palmer, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. A dedicated teacher, her graduates are now successful educators and performers, working professionally in opera, choral, theatre, television and radio. She is committed to developing the unique, natural gift of each individual voice, while building a strong foundational technique and sensitive artistry. Ms. Gassi is appointed to the Department of Performance Studies Western University, where she teaches voice and conducts the St. Cecilia Singers. She is a recipient of the Western University Students’ Council Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
