Bio:

Baritone Robert Longo (Bachelor Music; Bachelor Education; Opera Diploma) as the title character in Toronto Operetta Theatre’s The Chocolate Soldier was named “the perfect leading man” by Paula Citron in Opera Canada Magazine.

Bob is committed to the development of new works and will perform the role of General "Mad Anthony" Wayne in the World Premiere of John Beckwith and James Reaney's TAPTOO! for Toronto Operetta Theatre. He has also created the role of Norman Biggs (the Giant) in Brian Finley and Ken Tizzard's THE SELFISH GIANT for the Westben Arts Theatre and the role of John Worthing in Eugene Benson and Victor Davies World Premiere of Earnest, The Importance of Being, also for TOT. He played the role of Ernesto Vinci for Victoria Playhouse Petrolia in PORTIA, a play with music based on the life of Portia White. Last season he returned to Petrolia to join David Rogers and Kevin Pauls in THE POWER OF SONG. In his debut for Drayton Entertainment he posed as Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He recently created the role of John Worthing in Eugene Benson and Victor Davies World Premiere of Earnest the Importance of Being, a Canadian Operetta based on Oscar Wilde’s play. In concert he has sung everything from Mozart (Bass soloist, Coronation Mass, Regina Coeli, Mohawk College Singers) to Musical Theatre (Aspects of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Westben Arts Festival and Patience, TOT) to Mary Had a Little Lamb (Vocal Music teacher, Toronto Catholic District School Board). Bob made his film debut as the singing Wiseman in the TV Feature Comfort and Joy. In the 1000 Island’s Playhouse Production of The Secret Garden, Bob played the role of Dr. Craven. He was featured as Captain Tarnitz in the Papermill Playhouse, New Jersey, production of The Student Prince, and was Lancelot in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival production of Camelot. On the U.S. National tour of Les Miserables, Bob played the role of Javert to critical acclaim and played the Beast in the Toronto production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Other Toronto credits include Anatoly in Chess in Concert; Smudge and Frankie in Forever Plaid; The Narrator in Into the Woods, Bathurst Street Theatre. Bob made his Broadway debut in the revival of Shenandoah with John Cullum and was featured at the Broadway Cares benefit performance of Chess. While living in New York City, he enjoyed creating and developing many new works, including Judy’s Scary Little Christmas directed by Leonard Foglia (Master Class), a new musical rendition of Moll Flanders and The Prince and the Pauper by Neil Berg. Operatic credits include roles with Opera Atelier, Anchorage Opera, Minnesota Opera, and the Santa Fe Opera Company. His varied concert career includes Gershwin’s Girl Crazy for New York City’s American Opera Projects, A tribute to Andrew Lloyd Weber for Rockwell Productions, Pennsylvania and the premier of Glen Buhr’s Comic Opera, FLUX with members of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony. Bob is a favourite at Ontario’s Westben Festival and was seen most recently in A Barnful of Broadway. With his wife, Gabrielle Prata, he runs Pragos Entertainment. Their most recent production is the autobiographical musical-review show I’m Not Going Anywhere – Il Concerto del Destino directed by David Connolly.

He served on the faculty of New York University’s CAP 21, was adjunct professor of voice at William Patterson University and acted as the Music Department Coordinator at Toronto’s Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. He continues to teach at RAPA and is a Vocal Music Teacher with the TCDSB.
