Bio: Amy W. Hartsough, Director of Music at First Lutheran Church, Janesville WI, received her Bachelor of Music Performance cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (pipe organ/piano/voice), and continued her studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England (avant garde/cabaret voice). In London, she performed as the Sorceress in the Nonesuch Orchestra production of Dido and Aeneas, and was the mezzo soloist in Charpentier’s Mass in C Minor at Westminster Abbey. She then received her Masters of Music (vocal performance) followed by her Professional Artist Certificate (opera) as a Fellow in the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. At the Institute, Ms. Hartsough was featured as Mrs. Emma Jones in Weill’s Street Scene, Public Opinion in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Dame Marthe Schwerlein in Gounod’s Faust, and created the role of Elizabeth in Kirke Meachem’s workshop premiere of Pride and Prejudice. She also performed the roles Kate in Dvorak’s The Devil and Kate, and Mrs. Soames in the Southeast premiere of Ned Rorem’s Our Town. She debuted with Piedmont Opera as Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata, and was the mezzo soprano soloist in Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore K. 339 with the Winston-Salem Symphony. Ms. Hartsough has performed with Present Music (Milwaukee), Voces Aestetis (Madison), and produces salon/cabaret-style solo performances throughout the Madison area, featuring the works of Satie, Weill, Takemitsu, Britten, and Bolcom. Ms. Hartsough performed the Britten mezzo-soprano cantata Phaedra, Op. 90, in February 2018 at Bethel Lutheran, as part of their concert series. Amy recently released two recordings: one of newly-composed jazz, and a live cabaret performance with pianist Patrick Kenney-Brown. She has been a guest lecturer/recitalist with pianist Dr. Eric Hung for several National College Music Society conferences since October 2019, where they discussed and performed song cycles and pieces by a variety of composers featured in the resource: Music of Asian America Research Center. She teaches a private voice and piano studio, and accompanies several young musicians for competitions, recordings, and recitals.
