Bio:
Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as "funny and fresh-voiced", tenor Gary Ruschman has appeared in principal light lyric and character tenor roles in more than forty operas, musicals, and plays, with an extended concert repertoire. He has performed alongside jazz legends Doc Severinsen and Bobby McFerrin, and appeared on dozens of recordings and national broadcasts, including three solo albums.
Gary toured the globe for a decade with CANTUS vocal ensemble, and served multiple terms as Artistic Co-Director and other leadership positions. He currently leads the choral and vocal programs at North Hennepin Community College and St. Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. He also serves as music director of Mixed Precipitation's Pickup Truck Opera and OVation!, the portable chamber choir of One Voice Mixed Chorus (one of the largest LGBTQA+ choruses in North America).
For more than a decade, the tenor has worked extensively as an educator for solo performers and vocal ensembles of all levels, including transgender and transitioning voices.
An ASCAP award winning composer, his music has been featured on BBC Two, NPR, and in performances around the world. He earned singing and opera degrees with honors from Northern Kentucky University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
