Bio: Alexandra Mena, mezzo-soprano, was born in San José, California to Argentine-Italian parents. She made her Davies Symphony Hall debut as Elizabeth Bennet in excerpts of Kirke Mechem’s new opera "Pride & Prejudice", a world premiere with the San Francisco Choral Society. She also appeared as Lady Bertram in the West Coast Premiere of Jonathan Dove's "Mansfield Park" at the San Francisco Conservatory. Alexandra has also appeared as Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), the Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Carmela (La vida breve), and Dritte Dame (Die Zauberföte). In concert, her solo work includes De Falla’s El Amor Brujo, Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass and Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Pergolesi’s Magnificat, Haydn’s The Creation, Bach’s Magnificat, C.P.E. Bach’s Magnificat, Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music, and Carson Cooman’s A Kingdom of Justice. Alexandra maintains a private voice studio in Fremont, California, where she specializes in musical theatre and contemporary styles for middle and high school students on a performance track. Her students have advanced and placed in national competitions such as American Idol, ETTV Idol, and abroad at the Water Cube Singing Festival, in Beijing. They have also won top prizes at the iPOP Conference, the Lenaea Theatre Festival, the NATS Singing Festivals, and Youth Focus Competitions. They have performed lead and supporting roles with TheatreWorks, South Bay Musical Theatre, Woodminster Summer Musicals, Berkeley Playhouse, Sunnyvale Players, Tuacahn Center for Performing Arts, Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre, and Stage 1 Theatre. They're also actively performing in youth theatre with StarStruck Youth Theatre, Children’s Musical Theatre of San Jose, and Stars 2000. Alexandra is the recipient of the Charlene Archibeque Choral Endowment Scholarship Award at San José State University, where she is completed a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. She was also awarded the Milton Mosk and Thomas Foutch Scholarship Award at the San Francisco Conservatory, where she earned a Master of Music degree, also in vocal performance.
