Bio:
Dr. Barbara Dyer currently teaches private voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Diction, and core curriculum courses at Loyola Marymount University. She also taught graduate and undergraduate voice science courses at the University of Southern California. Previously tenured as Assistant Professor at Moorhead State University, Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1981, she has a private studio at her home.
Designated a Distinguished Colleague from the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA) for completing the Oren Brown Professional Development Program, Dr. Dyer’s interest in vocal science bridges and allows greater understanding of the scientific workings of the voice in practical applications. Invited to give Assembling My Vocal Team: Who and Why for the Osborne Head & Neck Institute in March, 2014, she was also invited for Lecture/Demonstration Master Class July, 2012, Taipei, Taiwan, at the Teacher’s Educational University. She sponsored the first West Coast VoceVista Symposium at Loyola Marymount University in July, 2011. In July, 2010, she was the featured speaker on Computer Technology in Vocal Development at the annual convention of the Music Teachers’ Association of California. She has been a regular performer on Faculty Recitals at Loyola Marymount University, and other universities in the area. Dyer has sung Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Beach Cities Symphony, soloed with various choral groups in the greater Los Angeles area in concerts of Handel’s Messiah, and Michael Tippett’s A Child of our Time, and other major works. Dr. Dyer is an active member of National Association of Teachers of Singing, Los Angeles Chapter (NATS-LA) and has held the positions of President, Vice President (Programming two terms), Publicity, and Secretary.
