Bio:

Dian Lawler-Johnson holds degrees in Vocal Performance from Converse College (BM) and the University of Illinois (MM). During her 43-year college teaching career, she served on the Voice faculty of several major universities, including the University of Alabama, Shorter College/University, and Columbus State University. As a Certified McClosky Vocal Technician she is often called upon to teach workshops and assist in the rehabilitation of damaged voices. She currently maintains a private teaching studio in Roswell, GA. Ms. Lawler-Johnson’s performance career includes leading roles with the Lake George Opera, Southern Regional Opera, Brevard Music Center Opera, Goldovsky Opera Institute, and the American Institute for Musical Studies (Graz, Austria), as well as with regional theater companies and orchestras.

She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Mu Phi Epsilon, Music Teachers National Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (serving as past Board Member and Secretary of the NATS Foundation, GA NATS Governor, GA Membership Chairman, and GA Co-Education Chair).

Notable accomplishments of Ms. Lawler-Johnson’s students include more than 130 state and regional NATS Auditions award winners (1983-present), 2012 MTNA National Auditions Finalist, 2007 GA Metropolitan Opera Auditions Winner and S.E.Regional Met “Encouragement Award”, Winner of the 2005 Kennedy Center and ACTF National “Outstanding Performer Award”, Georgia’s Junior Misses (2001,2000), Disneyworld’s Cinderella, GA’s Music Hall of Fame High School Scholarship Winner, leading roles/soloists with international and regional opera companies, undergraduate and graduate assistantships and scholarships to top-tier music schools.
