Georgia NATS Chapter Student Auditions 2024

November 1-2, Berry College
November 1 @ 5pm (Master Class)

Please make sure you read all of the information below and any follow up emails that come your way. In addition, our news and information from our host school, Berry College, will be updated on the GA NATS website very soon. 

Important for 2024

  1. Auditionware (the software we used two years ago) will be the online platform used for all NSA auditions this cycle

* If you have registered through Auditionware in the past, your information should still be saved, but please make sure you use accurate and up to date email addresses for yourself, your students AND pianists. You’ll be able to find the tab for Auditionware on the nats.org website when you login to your member account.

*Please register as soon as you can: Registration will open September 27th at 8am EST and close October 17th at 11:59pm EST for in-person auditions (all Classical and Musical Theatre categories)

*CM categories: All CM categories will be virtual. Registration will also open September 27th at 8am EST, and all videos must be submitted by October 4th at 11:59pm EST.

Results will be posted on October 14th.

  1. Video Submissions for CM categories

* The Contemporary Music Categories (Children through Adult categories) will be entirely online for 2024.

*Please make sure you read ALL guidelines for submitting videos (i.e. sound, use of microphone, etc.) and make sure there is nothing in the room that identifies your school or teacher. Same for the video itself: no identifying the teacher on the YouTube Channel.

*Winners of CM categories will be invited to perform in a "coffee house" evening performance on Friday, November 1 at 8pm. Performance details to come depending on the number of performers who choose to attend. A mic and amp will be provided.

  1. Resources: Full NSA guidelines for each category, rubrics, judging videos, etc.

ww.nats.org has a plethora of resources for the auditions and judging.  Please start reading through these documents and rubrics so that you are comfortable with all categories and the resources available to help you judge or submit students this year.

Teachers, please use the judging training videos before our auditions so we are consistent with judging at the state, regional, and national levels.

*We will discuss other news when we meet Friday, morning November 1st at 8am! This meeting is mandatory for all judges. 

 

  1. Audition Weekend Specifics:

*Once again: There is a mandatory, live meeting for all judges at 8am on Friday, November 1st. This meeting has important information for the day as well as information about future GA NATS activities. We will also go over any last -minute changes to the schedule.

  • Auditions will start as early as 9:30am on Friday, Nov. 1th and 9am on Saturday, November 2nd.
  • The final concert will be on The time is TBA depending on the schedule.

5.American Negro Spirtual Categories: This year we will rotate to our ANS categories. Please follow the NSA guidelines for this category.

6.Fees and Pianists:

*Teacher Registration is $20; Student Registration is $15 (per category).

*GA NATS Staff pianists: The fee for a staff pianist is $45 for 3 songs and $60 for 4 songs or more. This fee also covers any semifinals or finals in which the student might participate.

*Pianists: We are always in need of excellent staff pianists for our 2 days of Auditions. If you have names of pianists who would be interested in being a staff pianist for the Fall Auditions please let me know ASAP! Pianists can play for 10 students a day.

  1. Ages and Minors:

*Your student’s age on September 1st establishes the age of students entered for the entire NSA cycle.

*For In-person auditions: a parent or guardian must follow instructions and sign the Minor Chaperone form. Minor Chaperone form.

  1. Masterclass! There will be a Masterclass with Roderick Dixon, Tenor, on Friday, November 1st at 5pm. http://www.tenorroddixon.com. Applications for the masterclass will also open on Sept. 27 and close on October 18th with those selected being notified on October 28th.

9.Judges not bringing students: If you’ve missed your in-person experience with NATS but do not have any students to enter this year, we’d still love to see you. Please let me know (dneely@westga.edu) if you want to participate as a judge, and I have no doubt we will be able to put you to work!

  • CMT Registration CLOSES: October 3 @ 11:59pm (all videos submitted)
  • CMT Categories Judged: October 7 - 11
  • CMT Category Results posted: October 14 @ 5:00pm
  • Registration CLOSES for CL and MT: October 17 @ 11:59pm
  • Masterclass Application Closes: October 17 @ 11:59pm
  • Notification of Masterclass Participation: October 28 @ 12:00pm
  • Auditions: November 1-2 @ Berry College
  • MANDATORY Judges Meeting & Business Meeting: November 1 @ 8:00am
  • Masterclass: November 1 @ 7:30pm
  • Winners Recital: November 2 @ TBD
