Job Description / Duties

POSITION: Visiting Assistant Professor of Music – Choral Music Education. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility for renewal. The position begins August 1, 2019. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will oversee the Choral area of the department and the Choral Music Education program. Teaching duties will include directing the top, mixed choral ensemble (the Coe Concert Choir) and teaching Music Education courses. Expectations also include actively recruiting students for the Music Education program, building and developing the Choral area of the department, and establishing positive relationships with area school music educators. Additional responsibilities may include teaching Applied Voice, Voice-related courses, or other Music or music-related General Education courses dependent upon the candidate’s experience, interests, and departmental needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree in music is required and an earned doctorate or ABD is preferred. Candidates must have at least one degree in Music Education and have three or more years of successful Pre-K to 12 public school teaching experience. College-level teaching experience is desirable. Successful candidates will provide experience and proven excellence as a choral conductor and a strong commitment to music education at all levels.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Music Department is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The department offers several degree options for its students, including: Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Instrumental and Vocal), Bachelor of Music in Performance (Instrumental, Keyboard, and Vocal), and Bachelor of Music in Composition.
