The under-represented minority post-doctoral teaching fellowship program seeks to provide fellows with career growth experience in teaching at a supportive liberal arts university as well as contribute to the diversity and inclusion priorities of Gonzaga University. This position will teach vocal music in a variety of courses within a vibrant choral and vocal program committed to underrepresented composers and musicians. The successful candidate will bring to this music position direct expertise, cultural familiarity and competence, experience with underrepresented perspectives, and professional activity engaged with diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity and excellence in teaching vocal music to music majors and non-major liberal arts students in individual and group settings.

Minimum Qualifications
• D.M.A. in Vocal Performance, Vocal Pedagogy, or Choral Conducting with completion (degree in hand) between August 1, 2019 through August 1, 2021
• Evidence of potential or experience teaching voice to undergraduate students
• Evidence of regular professional activity as a vocal performer
• Evidence of scholarly potential in vocal music

Desired Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience promoting social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic environment
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, global engagement, and/or solidarity with marginalized communities through performances or creative collaborations
• Demonstrated success working with students of diverse backgrounds
• Experience in conducting a choral ensemble and/or directing musical theater, opera, or other staged performances
• Experience or potential to contribute to music outreach initiatives, such as educational and performance events
• Interest or experience in collaborating with music and interdisciplinary colleagues

The Music Department serves over 850 students in courses each semester and is active in service to the University, Spokane, and Inland Northwest communities. In spring 2019, Gonzaga University opened the new Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, a facility with two performance halls for innovative collaborations.
