Bio:

YoonGeong (Josephine) Lee, D.M.A., soprano

As a 2014 winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions San Francisco district and a recipient of Encouragement Award in Western Region, the Korean-born Ms.Lee made her debut at San Francisco Davies Symphony Hall as a soprano soloist from Carmina Burana in 2017. She sang soprano solos from Poulenc's Gloria at Bing Hall with Stanford Symphony Orchestra in 2016. Ms.Lee was an active AGMA member of San Francisco Symphony Chorus in 2016-2018. Ms.Lee was a soprano fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center for two consecutive years (2011 and 2012). She received the Grace B. Jackson Prize-a prize awarded to an outstanding fellow in 2012. She was a Professional Stern Fellow at Songfest in 2015 and was invited to Montecito International Music Festival. Her numerous awards include a semi-finalist of Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition, the 3rd place of 26th National Opera Association Vocal Competition, and Italo Tajo Memorial Award of CCM Opera Scholarship Competition. She performed many cantatas of J.S. Bach with Cincinnati Bach Ensemble as a soloist. She is an active recitalist and concert soloist. Her operatic roles include Susanna (Le nozze die Figaro), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Laurette (Le Docteur Miracle), Flaminia (Il mondo della luna), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni).

She spent the summer of 2013 in Germany for German language study as a recipient of The Mercer Scholarship sponsored by University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and studied Italian at CCM Spoleto in the summer of 2010. In Korea, Ms.Lee's voice is familiar to the public with her recording of the “Opening Theme” and “Mishil Theme” for the soundtrack of the Korean historical drama Queen Seondeok, which topped the charts on Korean TV and received widespread critical acclaim. Ms.Lee finished her study at Seoul Arts High School(served as a president of Student Council and graduated as Summa Cum Laude), Seoul National University (BM, Summa Cum Laude), and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (MM and DMA) where she studied with Barbara Clark and Mary Stucky. She had numerous masterclasses such as Patricia Racette, Stephanie Blythe, Håkan Hagegård and Martin Katz.

She has held adjunct faculty positions at Seoul National University, Kookmin University, Kyunghee University, Sejong University, and Kangnam University and has taught young vocal talents at Seoul Arts High School, Incheon Arts High School, Kyunggi Arts High School, and Ulsan Arts High School.

Since 2019, Ms. Lee has been a founding member of Ensemble Lyrique, collaborating with composer Mirae Hwang. She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. ​
