NATS ARTIST AWARD (NATSAA)

DESCRIPTION: The NATSAA competition is designed to assist singers prepared to launch a professional career, and to that end substantial monetary and performance prizes are offered. The competition takes place every other year, in conjunction with NATS Conferences. Preliminary competitions are held regionally, and semifinals/finals take place at the NATS Conference. Details about the upcoming NATSAA Competition schedule are listed below. For policies, procedures, and eligibility guidelines see the current NATSAA application .

"Throughout its history the purpose of this [NATSAA] competition has been to select, through a series of elimination rounds on the district, regional, and national levels, singers whose artistry indicates that they are ready for a professional career and to encourage them toward that goal with a cash prize and the opportunity for performance engagements."

DATE: Preliminary Auditions-February, March, April, 2008. National Semifinals and Finals will take place in Nashville, TN at the 50th NATS National Conference, June 27-July 1, 2008. Official dates and times will be announced.

DEADLINE: APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 16, 2007

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You must fill out the application completely (including repertoire) and submit payment for your application to be complete. If you do not complete the application and do not make payment, your application is deleted from the system and you will have to start over.

NATS 2008 Art Song Composition Award

DESCRIPTION: NATS offers a cash award plus a performance of the winning composition at a NATS Conference to the composer of the winning song cycle, group of songs, or extended single song. Competition is open to any composer whose submitted work meets the prescribed requirements, and who pays the competition entry fee.

"The purpose of the Art Song Composition Award [formerly the Vocal Composition Award] program... is to stimulate the creation of quality vocal literature through the cooperation of singer and composer."

REQUIREMENTS: The work must be: (1) a song cycle, group of songs, or extended single song of approximately fifteen minutes in length (13-17 minutes acceptable); (2) for single voice and piano; (3) to a text written in English, for which the composer has secured copyright clearance (only text setting permission necessary); (4) composed within the last two years (after Jan. 1, 2006).

AWARDS:
1st place - $2,000 plus the composer's expenses to the 50th NATS National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, June 27-July 1, 2008, where the premiere performance of the winning composition will be given.

2nd place - $1,000
